Collection: Yu Kang

Yu (b. 2006) is a multimedia artist and illustrator currently based in Singapore. Their eyes are always drawn to the fragile; movements of nature, like the branching of roots or brushing against a stranger’s shoulder, that cannot be arrested. Yet, they find themself desperately chasing its afterimage. This yearning to live is translated to surreal images; whether in print, on canvas or the digital screen. Inspired by observations of everyday experiences and human relationships, Yu approaches their work with a delicate balance between spontaneity and precision.

Yu is constantly seeking ways across traditional and digital mediums to capture the indescribable changes that occur between self and environment. When working with traditional printmaking, they are intrigued by its unpredictable characteristics and ability to construct still yet moving images. Illustration pushes them to experiment with new and exciting visual languages. At this moment, Yu is searching for spaces to play and contribute to various projects as they wait for further studies.
